  • Wonderful trip with an expert local guide. We booked a trip to Trakai Castle with snowshoe hiking, the guide picked us up from our hotel in Vilnius and spent all day with us; we discovered a fascinating nature, had so much infos about locals, tradition and history, had a traditional meal and a took unforgetable photos. I would have given 100stars if possibile. Really good job!

  • Me and 3 of my friends booked this trip in the middle of February. Thomas picked us up right in front of our Airbnb housing and drove us to Trakai. The experience was great, Thomas was very friendy, talkative and made sure everybody was comfortable and safe. After walking in the National Historical park, we walked on frozen lake to the castle of Trakai (once in a life-time opportunity). It was freezing outside, don't forget to take warm clothes! We ended up having a pie and tea/coffee (all in price!), and walked straight back to the car. 🙂

More About the Tour

After hotel pick up and meeting your guide, you will head towards Trakai – a small town with about 5000 residents. Once a significant and powerful town, nowadays Trakai is enjoying tranquillity. The town is located next to Vilnius which is 15-miles (about 25-km) surrounded by several beautiful lakes, woods and hilly landscapes. The main attraction is the Island castle finished in the early 15th Century by Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytautas.
The snowshoe hike starts in Varnikai forest where you will explore a true winter wonderland while walking on the natural trails. Feel comfortable on your snowshoes while trailblazing your path the wild off-roads in the woods and frozen swamps. Walk on ice to the castle (walking on ice – subject of change if the ice is not thick enough) where you will learn some medieval history. Enjoy hot tea during the tour and traditional Karaim pie in a local restaurant to complete your impressions about Trakai before going back to Vilnius.
